Head 19.A. Medical Department
Personal Emoluments
A considerable increase in subordinate staff has been provided. This covers some expansion of activities but is largely due to the introduction of a 48-hour week in the hospitals. It is provided for under block votes under "Temporary Staff" throughout the departmental Estimates pending the fixing of a new establishment.
Changes in staff include 3 new posts of Superintendent Radiographer, Radiographer and Female Readiographer. An expansion of the X-Ray staff is necessary for the operation of the new mass X-Ray Unit which will shortly be installed. 10 European Nursing Sisters have been replaced by Chinese Nursing Sisters and 10 Health Inspectors by Chinese Health Inspectors. The Almoner Department has been increased by two Chinese Lady Almoners and six Assistant Almoners to cope with the increased volume of work. This will permit a better control over fees paid by patients and the cost of these additional posts should be more than offset by increased revenue. The Health staff is temporarily over-established by the posting of three supernumary officers.
